Robust, Lightweight Carbon Fiber Packaging for QTFM Gen-2

QTFM stands as one of the most sensitive and compact scalar atomic magnetometers available today. Many QTFM applications also need compact, robust, and lightweight packaging for deployment, especially on mobile platforms like UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and UUVs (Unmanned Underwater Vehicles). To meet these requirements, we have developed a carbon fiber-based solution (add-on) that simplifies the integration of QTFM onto mobile platforms.

The image below showcases the QTFM sensor head (including a vector add-on) along with its electronics controller, encased in carbon fiber (CF). Connection to the CF case is achieved through a robust, industrial-strength cable featuring a Micro-D connector. The CF case measures 1.1×1.1 inches in cross-section and is 12 inches long, weighing under 150 grams. The standard cable is 36 inches in length.

The standard comms board, encased in a separate carbon fiber housing, measures 1.1×1.1 inches, has a length of 3.5 inches, and weighs approximately 40 grams. The advanced comms board (ACB 2.0) extends to 7.75 inches in length and weighs 110 grams. The standard communications board features power regulation circuitry and a USB communications bridge. The advanced comms board includes power regulation circuitry, a data logger, GPS, and Bluetooth connectivity.
